Juliusz Joniak

   Juliusz Joniak was born on November 19, 1925 in Lvov. He studied at the Department of Painting at Akademia Sztuk Pięknych (the Academy of Fine Arts) in Cracow. In 1950 he earned his Master of Art degree. He was a professor at the Department of Painting, Dean of this department and the Deputy Rector of the academy. He has made great contribution to the prestige of the Polish art. In 1995 Professor Joniak received the highest award at the 7th Festival of Arts in Magné, France, which counted more than 160 participants – painters from all continents.
   This great honor gave rise to another success: Juliusz Joniak was invited to be an honorary member of Academie Européene de Arts in Paris. He took part in many exhibitions in Poland and abroad, such as: the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Polish Art Exhibitions; Wystawa w Arsenale exhibition; Junge Generation exhibition in Berlin and Leipzig; contemporary-painting exhibitions in Sofia, Prague, Kiev, Bratislava, Dresden, Nancy, Valloris, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Ingelheim; Cracow Artists for Florence exhibition; Biennial Art Exhibition in Mérignac; Biennial Sports in Arts exhibition in Madrid and Barcelona; Cracow Painting exhibition in Bayreuth, Darmstadt, Nuremberg; Academy of Fine Arts Professors exhibition in Athens, Salonika; Ateliereinblicke exhibition in Bay Oyenhausen, Nuremberg.
   He held also individual exhibitions in many Polish towns as well as abroad in Bergen, Leipzig, Prague, Mainz, Aschaffenburg. His works ca be found not only in Muzeum Narodowe (the National Museums) in Cracow and Warsaw and in museums in Zielona Góra, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, but also in many museums and private collections in Australia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Italy and Germany.
Prof. Juliusz Joniak died on April 12, 2021 in Kraków.
